Crewe Alexandra are considering a loan move for old boy David Wright.

The Wigan Athletic defender is currently on the periphery at The JJB Stadium and has been linked with a return to Crewe.

Wright was at Gresty Road on Monday as The Railwaymen were comfortably beaten 3-1 by table-topping Sheffield United.

Reports suggest Crewe boss Dario Gradi is weighing up the possibility of bringing the 25-year-old back to the club on a temporary basis.

The full back left the South Cheshire side last summer for Wigan after making over 200 appearances for Crewe.

He was in and out of the Wigan team as the club won promotion to The Premiership for the first time in their history.

This season, Wright was on the bench for the defeat at Charlton Athletic but it is unclear where he figures in Paul Jewell's plans.

Norwich City denied tabling a £300,000 bid for Wright earlier this month and Crewe may instead test Wigan's resolve to keep the player.
