Lens striker Dagui Bakari has joined Nancy after failing to earn a contract at Wigan Athletic.

Bakari trained with The Latics earlier this week and played in the club's friendly against Accrington Stanley.

But the 30-year-old's display did not convince Latics boss Paul Jewell to offer Bakari a deal at The JJB Stadium.

The Ivory Coast international has quickly got over that disappointment by signing a one-year contract with Ligue 1 new boys Nancy.

He had been linked with Nancy during pre-season and has ended his three-year association with Lens to move on.

Bakari could make his debut for his new club this weekend against Bordeaux and Nancy revealed the tactics they used to sign the forward.

Nancy's general manager Gerard Parentin commented: "This transfer was carried out like a commando operation."
