Wigan wide man Gary Teale has signed a new two-year deal with the Premiership new boys.

The pacey 26-year-old, who had been linked with a return to Scotland, was out of contract this summer but has ended speculation about his future by putting pen to paper.

Teale admits he is excited at the prospect of playing in the top-flight and is looking forward to the new campaign in a positive frame of mind.

''I am absolutely delighted to have agreed this deal,'' Teale told the Manchester Evening News.

''I was always certain I wanted to stay. There is no way I was going to miss out on what's coming up this season.''

Meanwhile, Latics boss Paul Jewell has stepped up his search for fresh recruits - with the names of Wolves' Kenny Miller and Watford's Heidar Helguson reportedly in the frame.

''I have got my targets and there are lights at the end of the tunnel,'' said Jewell.

''We will bring in quality players and I can assure the fans that the team we have at the start of the season will be better than the one which finished last year.''
