Wigan Athletic capitalised on Ipswich Town's slip-up to move top of The Championship following a 2-1 win at Coventry City.
Ipswich missed the chance to extend their lead against Watford on Tuesday and were punished by The Latics for their home defeat.
Gary Teale fired Wigan ahead at Highfield Road after nine minutes, but the home side responded and were level at the break.
Gary McSheffrey's penalty after 22 minutes levelled the scores, however Nathan Ellington's second half goal settled the contest.
Derby County will feel their dropped points at home following a 1-1 draw against Burnley.
Jean-Louis Valois opened the scoring for The Clarets, but veteran Paul Peschisolido's second half goal earned a share of the spoils.
Nottingham Forest have given themselves hopes of avoiding the drop following a late 2-0 win over in-form Preston.
The game was scoreless for much of the contest until Paul Evans broke the deadlock after 77 minutes.
Just five minutes late the game was over when Kris Commons netted, ending The Lilywhites' hopes of snatching a point.
