Premiership outfit Birmingham have been linked with a £3 million bid for the prolific 23-year-old in January's transfer window.
Blues are short on depth up front and Ellington was mooted as a target for Steve Bruce, who had a brief spell in charge at The JJB Stadium.
Bruce's successor, Paul Jewell, is determined to ward off the Premiership vultures, following Ellington's 11 goals for The Latics this season.
Jewell admitted this week that he is under no pressure to cash in on the club's prized assets, with Ellington a key figure in their promotion push.
Ellington is currently under contract until 2006 and Jewell is looking to keep the former Bristol Rovers hot shot at the club for a longer period.
"Birmingham can't afford him and we're planning to offer Nathan a new deal anyway," said Jewell.
"We're not a selling club."
