Championship leaders Wigan thrashed Coventry 4-1 to stay three points clear of Reading.
The Latics were given a 15th-minute lead by Alan Mahon but on-loan Manchester United striker Eddie Johnson pegged them back with Coventry's equaliser.
But Paul Jewell's side scored three unanswered goals in the second half, the first coming from David Graham when Coventry failed to clear a Nathan Ellington effort.
Sky Blues keeper Luke Steele kept out another well-struck Mahon drive but, from the resulting corner, Ellington headed in his 11th goal of the season.
And from an Ellington flick-on, Steve Staunton brought down Jason Roberts to give Wigan a penalty and earn the former Republic of Ireland international a red card.
Roberts blazed his spot kick over the bar but substitute Mike Flynn headed a late fourth.
