Derby County are aiming to thrash out a deal with First Division counterparts Wigan Athletic for the permanent capture of Peter Kennedy.

The Northern Ireland international has spent the past month on loan at Pride Park but his spell concluded with Saturday's appearance against Wimbledon.

Kennedy impressed during his stay with The Rams, scoring once in five appearances, and manager George Burley is looking to keep the 30-year-old.

Burley is eager to speak to Wigan and Kennedy with regards to wrapping up a more permanent deal for the midfielder.

The Rams chief admits he has little money to spend but hopes a compromise can be reached to bring Kennedy back to the East Midlands.

"We'll see what develops on Monday when I have a chance to talk to Peter, his representatives and Wigan," said Burley.

"We need to strengthen the squad but we have to be sensible.

"You can see the way football is going with clubs the size of Leeds concerned about administration and with that in mind we have to look at what we can afford."
