The Latics are now 16 points clear of third place and are within touching distance of automatic promotion.
Top-scorer Nathan Ellington opened the scoring for Wigan after just nine minutes when he blasted home from 18 yards.
Wigan then sealed their win just before half time when they added a second.
Paul Reid fouled Neil Roberts in the area and Andy Liddell (pictured) stepped up and obliged from the spot.
