CELTIC are reported to be lining up a £2 million move for Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Roy Carroll in the wake of Mark Bosnich's decision not to take a loan deal with the Scottish League club.

Bosnich had been offered the chance to spend a year on loan at Parkhead, but has decided to defy Sir Alex Ferguson's support of Fabien Barthez and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

That has left Celtic manager Martin O'Neill having to search elsewhere for a challenger to Jonathon Gould, who has been less than impressive between the sticks for The Bhoys recently, and Stewart Kerr, who is on the transfer list.

It is reported that O'Neill will turn his attentions to 22-year-old Northern Ireland international Carroll and make a bid of around £2 million for the former Hull City star.

The highly-rated shot stopper has been linked with Celtic a number of times in recent months, but a move has so far failed to materialise, despite the Scottish Premier League season having already begun.
