Fulham's David Stockdale hopes his form at club level will see him claim a place in Fabio Capello's Euro 2012 squad.

Schwarzer's understudy aims to make number one spot his own

Fulham goalkeeper David Stockdale hopes his form at club level will see him claim a place in Fabio Capello's Euro 2012 squad. The 26-year-old is enjoying an extended run in the Fulham team following an injury to Mark Schwarzer and has proved himself to be more than an able deputy. Stockdale was loaned out to Ipswich earlier this season where he excelled and is now benefiting from regular first-team football. Capello has duly noted his ability and named the Leeds-born shot-stopper in three of his squads this year, but he is yet to make his international debut. However, Stockdale believes his continued good run of form could see him claim one of the goalkeeper's places in the squad for the Euros next summer.

Exciting

"Every time I get called, it's exciting - I'm just going to play for every squad and not look too far ahead. "It's not about England at the moment - it's about me cementing my place in the Fulham team." He added: "I got a good run on loan at Ipswich and I'd like to thank them for that and hopefully it's all part of me doing well for Fulham. "I've just got to keep going and play for as long as the manager puts me in."
