Former record breaker is now aiming for regular football

Matthew Briggs is aiming to make up for lost time after a frustrating period at Fulham. At just 16 years and 65 days, he made his debut for the Cottagers against Middlesbrough in May 2007, and looked set for a glittering career. Football, however, often imitates life and his progress was not seamless. A combination of injuries, incoming players and managerial changes have failed to see him blossom. Briggs returned to the first-team fold more than three years after his debut earlier this month, and is now determined to emerge from his period in the wilderness a better player.

True

"Its true things probably haven't gone as I thought they would," he told the club's official website. "There were times when I didn't really feel part of things. "Although I was in and around the senior squad, it's not until you get a regular run of games that you fully understand what it is like.
Professional
"But I do feel part of the set-up now. I feel like a professional footballer. "It has been frustrating. I could have let my head drop but the moment you allow that to happen is the moment your dream can slip away. "I'm 20 years of age now and although that is still young, I've been training with the first team for a while. I like to think that I have the talent and now it's up to me to turn my potential into the real thing."
