Jonathan Greening believes new Fulham boss Mark Hughes will be looking to prove a point this season.
The Welshman has been drafted in at Craven Cottage to replace the popular Roy Hodgson, who has taken the reins at Liverpool.
Hughes was available as he has been out of work since being dumped by Manchester City in December 2009.
Greening believes the former Wales and Blackburn coach will want to show his former employers that they were wrong to get rid of him, especially as the general consensus is that he was not given enough time at Eastlands.
He faces a tough task to emulate the achievements of Hodgson, who worked wonders during his time with the Cottagers, but Hughes has enough top flight experience to suggest he can help Fulham maintain their forward momentum.
Doubters
"I am sure he will stamp his own mark before the season starts," said Greening.
"I was a bit surprised he left City because he had a lot of money to spend but didn't have a lot of time to gel the players and the team.
"I am sure he will say he has a point to prove to himself and to everyone who has doubted him.
"I believe he will come in and give it his all and it is up to us players to help him become successful."
