Striker calls on Cottagers to finish job

Brian McBride is adamant that Fulham will not let complacency creep in when they face Portsmouth on the final day of the season. The Cottagers are in control of their own destiny after beating Birmingham on Saturday, and three more points at Fratton Park will secure their Premier League survival. Fulham could even stay up without winning if other results go their way and McBride admits they are in a great position. But the American striker knows how important the clash with Pompey is and has called on his team-mates to finish the job. "It has been a great turnaround," said McBride. "It was always going to be emotional on Saturday as it was a very important game for both teams. "We've worked so hard to make sure we maintain the right focus and right attitude going into our games. "The manager has kept us focused and we went about our business in the same way. We focus on the game itself and not worry about the position because going into a game you can't be worrying about where you're at. "As you can expect the atmosphere in the dressing room was very good after the game but we're not under any illusions that this is over. We still have a job to do and it's going to be a tough one. "Our confidence has grown for sure and you can see that with our composure."

Incredible fans

Portsmouth's form has dipped in recent weeks and Harry Redknapp may rest players as he looks ahead to the FA Cup final, but McBride is expecting a tricky game. McBride is nevertheless confident that Fulham's travelling supporters can inspire them to victory. He explained: "It's going to be a very difficult game on Sunday and I don't think any team in this league looks past the next game. They (Portsmouth) have great support there and they'll want to do well. "Our fans were incredible on Saturday and they have been since we've been in this position. They've been extremely vocal and extremely supportive and it makes a big difference. "Last weekend when we were 2-0 down against Manchester City we came out at half-time and they were still belting away - that can only do good things to you as a player. "You play this game for the enjoyment and for the passion and you can see that in our players and supporters. The support has been great and our fans will play a huge part on Sunday and one we are grateful for."
