FC Groningen star Erik Nevland was left disappointed after his proposed move to Premier League strugglers Fulham collapsed on Friday evening.
The two clubs failed to reach an agreement on Friday during a meeting in Amsterdam.
The 31-year-old has blamed his club for putting an unrealistic price tag on him.
"I understand why Fulham returned to London," Nevland told Stavanger Aftenblad.
"The Groningen directors are living in a fantasy world. I clearly stated what I thought about the issue, but then the Groningen directors just stood up and left the meeting.
"I honestly believed that it would be sorted out, but Groningen demanded much more than was offered.
"When you have come as far as negotiations, I thought it would be sorted out.
"I have experienced many setbacks in football, but this is the biggest."
