Skysports.com understands Sunderland are set to make a late bid for Franck Queudrue.
The Fulham defender is keen to leave Craven Cottage just 12 months after quitting Middlesbrough for the capital.
He has held talks with Birmingham and a move to St Andrews remains a possibility.
But Sunderland have also been keeping tabs on Queudrue's situation and are hoping to convince the Frenchman that his future lies at The Stadium of Light.
Black Cats boss Roy Keane has been looking to strengthen his defence since missing out on Wigan full-back Leighton Baines.
