Alexei Smertin's agent has confirmed Fulham are closing on the signature of his client.
Skysports.com exclusively brought you news of Fulham's approach for Smertin and now the move is approaching a conclusion.
The 31-year-old has been told he can leave Dinamo Moscow and his previous boss at Charlton, Alan Curbishley - now at West Ham, was first to make a move.
However, as we revealed, The Hammers bid has faltered which has allowed Fulham to make their move.
"An offer from Alan Curbishley at West Ham, who knows the player very well from his time at Charlton, interested the player," Barbosa told Tvoy Den newspaper.
"But the team currently lie at the bottom of the league and are fighting for survival, and we don't want Alexei to join another relegation candidate.
"Smertin has enough strength and experience to accomplish higher things. Plus we have more attractive offers.
"I think that in the coming days everything will be finalised. What remains is to settle a few matters regarding Alexei's move, including with his former club Dinamo Moscow."
Barbosa confirmed an offer from Fulham was on the table.
"Fulham are one of the clubs who want to sign Alexei, and I met with their representatives recently," he confirmed.
"They have made Smertin a firm offer."
Meanwhile, Fulham have confirmed that Niclas Jensen has left the club and signed for FC Copenhagen.
The 32-year-old, who has fallen out-of-favour at Craven Cottage, has penned a two-and-half year deal with Copenhagen.
