Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has not admitted defeat yet in The Robins' quest to keep Liam Fontaine.
The 20-year-old defender impressed everyone at Ashton Gate during his brief loan spell at the end of last season, but he has since returned to Fulham.
The Cottagers have offered Fontaine a new deal but Johnson is still hoping an agreement can be reached to keep him in League One for another season.
"There's still a chance of him being here next season, it's not totally dead," Johnson insisted.
"He was a real asset during the second half of the season and certainly the type of player we want to bring to the club.
"But we'll have to see what Fulham want to do."
