Papa poised to pen new deal

Fulham star Papa Bouba Diop is close to penning a new deal at the club.

Fulham star Papa Bouba Diop is close to penning a new deal to extend his stay at Craven Cottage.

The West London outfit have been locked in talks with the Senegal international for some time as they look to secure his future.

Chris Coleman has expressed his desire to keep hold of Diop, who has proved to be a massive success at the club since his arrival from Lens in the summer of 2004.

Diop still has two years to run on his current deal and the player's agent, Craig Hutchinson, admitted a new one-year extension is close to being agreed.

"We have discussing for the past couple of weeks about an extension to Papa's contract," Hutchinson told skysports.com.

"We are virtually there with it and we are hopeful of it being done in the next few days as all the ground work has been done.

"Papa wants to stay and Fulham want him to stay as they have made him an offer.

"He is happy in London and he has never expressed a desire to leave.

"His current contract runs until 2008 and Fulham have offered him another year on improved terms."
