Crystal Palace manager Iain Dowie has begun preparation for the Premiership with the capture of Fulham defender Mark Hudson, who spent the close of last season on loan at Selhurst Park.

Dowie first became acquainted with Hudson whilst at former club Oldham Athletic - where the player enjoyed a productive loan spell - before taking the confident stopper with him to Palace.

Hudson proved a pivotal player in the club's late surge for the Premiership and his signature should be well received by the Eagles faithful.

Meanwhile, speculation is linking Dowie with a surprise move for Colchester United striker Wayne Andrews.

The pacey striker was brought to his Dowie's attention by his brother, Bob, who is now heavily involved with the scouting network at Palace.

Dowie worked with Andrews at Oldham, who gave up his profession as an actor to take his break in league football after falling out of the professional game for several years.
