Southampton go in search of their first away win over Fulham in almost 60 years in the Boxing Day tussle between the UEFA Champions League hopefuls.

The South Coast club last tasted victory in West London in 1947 and head to Loftus Road on the back of three consecutive Premiership wins.

That troika has enabled Saints to usurp Fulham in fourth place in The Premiership although manager Gordon Strachan is playing down the club's Champions League aspirations.

Fulham are equally unlikely to talk up their prospects of playing in Europe's elite club competition next term but both sides will chase a Uefa Cup place with vigour.

Home boss Chris Coleman will be hoping the recent transfer gossip will not have unsettled leading scorer Louis Saha for the visit of Southampton after Premiership champions Manchester United were confirmed as admirers of the French hot shot.

Coleman is sweating on the fitness of midfield lynchpin Sean Davis who picked up a hamstring injury in the first half of last Saturday's defeat to Chelsea.

Mark Pembridge remains sidelined with a calf problem but Jerome Bonnissel is in contention after shaking off a leg injury.

Southampton's main concern is Rory Delap who missed the win over local rivals Portsmouth after incurring an ankle injury in training last Friday.

Matt Oakley is a long-term absentee while Graeme Le Saux is unlikely to feature after recovering from a hamstring problem and throat infection.

Strachan must also decide whether to play James Beattie, Brett Ormerod and Marian Pahars for the trip to the capital.
