The former Barnet and Birmingham City manager has also seen a move for West Ham United hit-man Richard Garcia hit the buffers.
Fry is keen to sign a new frontman since the sale of Leon McKenzie to Norwich City last week - despite the completed signings of strikers Calum Willock from Fulham for £25,000 and Richard Logan on a free transfer from Boston United on Thursday.
The Posh chief was keen to financially help nearby rivals Cambridge by taking the highly-rated Kitson off their hands but The U's have rejected the London Road club's offer.
"I am a big admirer of Dave Kitson and I wanted to help out our neighbours, as they are struggling a bit financially, but my bid was rejected, so obviously John Taylor wanted a bit more money," Fry told Posh's official website.
"I am not going to make another bid, so I have switched my attentions to other players.
"I had agreed a deal with West Ham United striker Richard Garcia and with Alan Pardew, but Richard has been called up by the Australian Under-23 side for the Olympics and would miss the whole of January, so unless Alan can talk him out of going, then that is a no-go too.
"Dele Adebola was another transfer target, but due to striker injuries at Coventry, he has now been on the substitutes' bench and they can't afford to let him go at the moment, but there may be better news in the New Year."
Fry also confirmed that he has an interest in fellow Coventry City striker Gary McSheffery but the youngster is sidelined with injury at Highfield Road.
