Grant Leadbitter is hoping competition for places up front will help to keep Middlesbrough in the race for promotion to the Premier League.

The midfielder took his own tally for the season to 10 goals with a penalty in Saturday's 2-0 Sky Bet Championship victory over Derby after Patrick Bamford had opened the scoring.

Bamford, on loan from Chelsea, has scored six times in his last seven games, while Kike, Jelle Vossen and Lee Tomlin have also contributed so far this season, and Leadbitter is hoping for more of the same during the second half of the campaign.

Leadbitter told the club's official website: "Pat's in a great streak of form right now - strikers do that.

"But it's not just him. I think Kike, Jelle and Tomlin - who we missed on Saturday - is also in good form, so our four strikers are doing really well.

"They are all competing for places, and we'll need that if we're going to do well."
