Transfer news: Wolves to rival Middlesbrough for Chelsea starlets

Wolves are attempting to to hijack Middlesbrough's approach for Chelsea duo George Saville and Patrick Bamford, Sky Sports understands.

Boro have been leading the chase for a number of Chelsea youngsters, as they build on a strong relationship with the West London giants which has been hardened by coach Aitor Karanka's friendship with Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho since his appointment last year.

Recent seasons have seen Josh McEachran, Nathaniel Chalobah and Kenneth Omeruo all spend loan spells at the Riverside and the Nigeria defender has recently retuned to Boro on a deal for the whole of this campaign.

But Boro want more, and have held talks over 20-year-old striker Bamford and 21-year-old midfielder Saville, whilst also checking on others including Lewis Baker.

Boro are now pushing to get a deal for Bamford over the line, as they see that as a key signing in their Sky Bet Championship promotion push.

Chelsea are keen for Bamford, Saville and midfielder Baker, 19, to move to The Riverside and are pushing them towards the North-East club.

Bamford impressed hugely last season when he scored 25 goals over two spells with Milton Keynes Dons and Derby County, and Boro remain hopeful of persuading him to seal a deal to join them this week - despite the rival interest.

Saville spent the 2013/14 campaign with Brentford and helped them win promotion from League One.
