Richie Smallwood is hoping he can return to Middlesbrough in the summer and push for a first-team spot.
The Teesside-born midfielder featured in 13 games for Boro this season, before being allowed to join Rotherham United in January.
Smallwood has been very impressive for the Millers in their play-off bid, and it has since emerged that Boro have taken up the option they had on the 23-year-old's contract by extending his deal at The Riverside until 2015.
Smallwood is now concentrating on helping Rotherham win promotion to the Championship, before his return to the north east.
"It has been going great at Rotherham, everyone at the club - staff and fans alike - have been first class with me and I think that has shown in my performances on the pitch," Smallwood told Sky Sports.
"Obviously Boro have extended my deal now, so it seems I might be going back for the summer, and if that is the case I will be doing everything I can to show what I feel, and that is that I am good enough to be playing in the Championship."
