Middlesbrough boss Aitor Karanka has warned new goalkeeper Tomas Mejias Osorio he will have to fight for a place in his team.
The 25-year-old this week formally completed his loan move from Real Madrid, where we had previously worked with Karanka, and will now compete with Shay Given, who is due to return to Aston Villa at the end of the month, and when he is fully fit again, Jason Steele, for the number one spot.
But Karanka told the Northern Echo: "The first thing for Tomas is to adapt and settle in here because it is his first move away from Real Madrid.
"I know him from my time there and I have a lot of confidence in him, but he needs to challenge with the other keepers.
"People will think that because I know him, it will be easy for him to get in the team once Shay goes back to Aston Villa, but that is not true.
"He needs to fight for his position on the training ground, and he has the same opportunity as the other keepers."
