Sky Sports understands that Middlesbrough are in talks with Andy Halliday over a new deal at The Riverside.
The 21-year-old, who joined Boro from Scottish club Livingston in 2010, is out of contract at the end of the season.
He has impressed this season and has also shown versatility, having been asked to operate in an unfamiliar left-back role.
Halliday, who has spent most of his career as a winger, has reportedly attracted interest from clubs such as Rangers and Cardiff City.
Boro are keen to tie him down to a new deal to keep potential suitors at bay and it is thought discussions are ongoing.
