Leutwiler joins from Basel

Middlesbrough have finalised a deal for Swiss goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler after he impressed following a trial stint. The 23-year-old has spent the summer training with Boro, as they looked for a new number two to provide back-up for England Under-21 star Jason Steele. Boro looked at a number of options, but Boro boss Tony Mowbray has opted to take Leutwiler from FC Basel - who made him available for free. "First and foremost he's a young goalkeeper," said Mowbray, confirming he will be on the bench for Saturday's opener at Barnsley. "He's 23 but in goalkeeping terms and in terms of playing first-team games he's young. He's 6ft 5ins, he's very agile and dynamic. "He's made some good saves in pre-season, he's been very positive and we hope he can take what we've seen into the first team if and when he has the opportunity to play. "I would think he will train this week and be on the bench at Barnsley on Saturday."
