Middlesbrough manager Tony Mowbray is waiting to learn the extent of a knee injury suffered by Matthew Bates against Ipswich Town. The Boro captain was replaced in the first half of the 1-1 draw at Portman Road on Tuesday evening after falling awkwardly following a challenge from Michael Chopra. Bates will undergo a scan to determine the severity of the problem with Mowbray keeping his fingers crossed it is not serious. "We do have a concern with Matthew's injury but we don't want to talk about it until we've had a scan," said Mowbray. "Let's hope it's not such a bad injury, but we'll wait and see." The 25-year-old, who came through the ranks on Teesside, has been a virtual ever-present for Middlesbrough this season, making 42 appearances and scoring twice.
