Walsall have captured versatile winger Andy Halliday on loan from Championship side Middlesbrough.
The 20-year-old winger, who can play on either flank, signed for Boro in the summer of 2010 for an undisclosed fee from Livingston having impressed north of the border with his goalscoring displays. Halliday is in contention to make his debut at Stevenage on Saturday, and Saddlers boss Dean Smith said: "He's a player who I have been aware of for some time. He comes highly recommended by a number of people. "This is an opportunity for him to come in and get games under his belt. He's a determined lad and a great character who wants to do well here. "He has the knack of scoring goals from wide positions and can play on the left, right or up front, so he will be a good addition to our squad." The Scot, on loan at the Banks's Stadium until January 7, made a total of 13 appearances for Middlesbrough last season but is yet to feature for the npower Championship club in 2011/12. Boro later confirmed the news in a statement, saying: "Middlesbrough have confirmed that Andrew Halliday has gone on loan to Walsall. Halliday is expected to be on loan at the Bescot Stadium until January 7."
