Norwich new boy already ruled out with knee problem

Norwich City have been dealt an early-season injury blow with the news that new signing Daniel Ayala is already sidelined. The 20-year-old defender only completed his move from Liverpool last week, signing a four-year deal at Carrow Road. Manager Paul Lambert had hoped the knee injury Ayala picked up during Tuesday night's game with MK Dons was not as bad as first feared. But it has now been confirmed that the young Spaniard has been ruled out for two months. "Dani is going to be out for a few months, which is a blow," said Lambert. "But that is football. Whoever plays I'm sure in that position will do their best. "Hopefully Elliott Ward is not too far away from being fit." Ayala was forced off late on during the Carling Cup defeat in midweek, which was his first start for the newly-promoted Premier League outfit.

Hoolahan doubtful

The former Hull and Derby loanee had come off the bench to make his Norwich debut in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Stoke. The Canaries visit Chelsea for their third Premier League game of the season on Saturday and Hoolahan (hamstring) will face a late fitness test having also been forced off in midweek. "We will have to wait and see this morning and how he is feeling," Lambert added. "If he is feeling okay then we will see."
