Former Celtic striker relieved to be away from Hoops fans' fury

Former Celtic striker Chris Killen admits he is glad to be away from the fall-out as the Hoops' disappointing season draws to a close. The 28-year-old New Zealand international moved south of the border in January to re-join former Celtic boss Gordon Strachan on a short-term deal until the end of the season. The Hoops went on to sack boss Tony Mowbray after a string of disappointing results and are close to losing out to arch-rivals Rangers in the race for the SPL title. The season then hit a new low with the shock loss to Ross County in the Scottish Cup at the weekend. While Killen would have liked the Hoops to have done well, especially for current caretaker manager Neil Lennon, he is glad to be away from the hard time the Celtic staff will be getting from the fans.

Mates

He said: "You have got mates up there and you want to see them do well. "The boys who have come down here, watching the results and seeing how poorly they have done, you know what a hard time they are going to be getting up there from the fans and the press. "So, from that side of things, it's just nice to be away from that." The cup defeat was a blow to Lennon's hopes of landing the manager's job on a permanent basis, and Killen would like his former team-mates to do well in upcoming games to help the caretaker boss.
Ripped apart
He said: "They will be getting ripped apart up there, and it's a shame because it would have been nice for Lenny to get off to a good start and do well with the team and hopefully push for the job up there. "For him, I would really like them to do well." He added: "They will probably have been calling for his head (Lennon) after that - that's what it's like up there. As soon as you lose a bit of silverware, it's doom and gloom. "But I don't think they have had the best of seasons anyway, so it's just kind of snowballed on from that."
