Strachan hoping to seal swoop on former club

Middlesbrough are locked in talks with Celtic over the signings of Gary Caldwell, Barry Robson and Willo Flood. Riverside boss Gordon Strachan, who is also trying to broker a deal for Rangers' Kris Boyd, is determined to bring his own players into the Boro squad. Caldwell and Robson are both out-of-contract at the end of the season, and with new deals not looking likely Boro are keen to take both on permanent deals. Strachan also wants midfielder Flood, who has barely played since his move from Cardiff City early in 2009. Boro are understood to have made an offer of £1.5million for the trio, but that appears to be short of the Bhoys' valuation - although it is thought an agreement may not be far off. Strachan is also being linked with loan deals for Chris Killen and Marc Wilson and could yet bring in up to five players from his former club. Celtic boss Tony Mowbray is anxious to see the likes of Caldwell and Robson move on as they are not part of his long-term plans. One player linked as a potential replacement for Caldwell is Sean St Ledger - who coincidentally - was recently sent back to Preston after failing to impress new Boro boss Strachan during a three-month loan stint.
