Mido has his sights set on a first-team recall after earning Middlesbrough a draw against West Ham.
Injuries have meant the Egyptian has started just two games in the last month for Boro.
He was on the bench, as he expected, against West Ham - but he took to the field and grabbed his fourth goal of the campaign with a ferocious free-kick from the edge of the box.
"It was difficult for the manager to change the team after the Manchester City win and I accept that," admitted Mido.
"I always knew I was only going to get about half-an-hour in this game, so in my head I was telling myself to make the most of those minutes.
"All I can so is make the manager's job hard. He has to choose two from three in attack and it's not an easy task, but I must ensure I am one of those two."
