Middlesbrough have decided to recall defender Tony McMahon from his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

Full-back back at Riverside

Middlesbrough have decided to recall defender Tony McMahon from his loan spell at Championship Sheffield Wednesday. The former England Under-21 international right-back has impressed during his stint with The Owls but was due to stay until the end of November. However, Boro boss Gareth Southgate has now decided to bring McMahon back to Teesside following an injury to Justin Hoyte. McMahon, though, will not be immediately available for three matches after he was sent-off for Wednesday in Tuesday's defeat at Barnsley. Wednesday boss Brian Laws is hoping he can persuade his former club to allow McMahon to return to Hillsborough. "Tony has been excellent during his loan spell with Sheffield Wednesday and we are grateful for what he has done during his initial spell," said Laws. "If Boro do not need him in November then we will try to bring Tony back so that he can complete the 93-day loan period he is entitled to serve with us."
