Owls look to keep McMahon

Hinds ruled out for up to eight months

Sheffield Wednesday hope to extend Tony McMahon's loan deal as Richard Hinds could now be out for eight months. McMahon joined the Owls from Middlesbrough in August on a one-month deal and has made two appearances to date. However, with Hinds and Frankie Simek sidelined, Owls boss Brian Laws is keen to keep the full-back at Hillsborough. "We want to increase his loan period here, he is a very good player, there's no doubt about it, he's a great acquisition to the team and he has fitted in very quickly," Laws told the club's official website. "Tony gets on well with the other players and they get on well with him. If Middlesbrough are happy then hopefully we can come to an agreement somewhere along the line."

Massive blow

Laws also confirmed that Hinds, who broke a bone in his lower leg against Wolves last month, is likely to be out of action until well into the New Year. He added: "We have to strengthen that area because we can't put timescales on Frankie Simek's comeback and Richard Hinds now looks likely to be out for six to eight months. "He has been to see the specialist again. When he went before, the initial timescale put on it was three to six months, but now they have gone to between six and eight months, which is a massive blow for the kid and for the club. "I feel for him because he is in the last year of his contract and he has given everything for the football club. I am disappointed for him and I hope he has a speedy recovery."
