Boro decide against prolonging Rochemback deal

Middlesbrough have told Fabio Rochemback that he is free to leave the club at the end of the season, according to reports in Portugal. Boro had until 1st May to take up a two-year contract extension on the Brazilian, but have decided against offering him a new deal. Reports in Portugal have claimed that the midfielder is now set to return to Sporting Lisbon, where he enjoyed a two-year spell between 2003 and 2005. It is understood that Middlesbrough were unwilling to meet Rochemback's wage demands and have given him clearance to begin negotiations with Sporting. Preliminary discussions are believed to have already taken place and the player has made it clear that he is keen on a return to Portugal.

Interest

These feelings were confirmed by his father, Juarez Rochemback, on Radio Renascenca. "My son is very interested in a return to Sporting," he said. "But other clubs have also asked about his situation." The other interested parties thought to be in the frame are French club Monaco and Brazilian side Gremio.
