Owens and Hawkins head to Saltergate on loan

Chesterfield have snapped up Graeme Owens and Colin Hawkins on loan until the end of the season. Owens arrives at Saltergate from Middlesbrough, with the midfielder looking to build up his first-team experience with the League Two club. The youngster has made just one senior appearance for Boro when coming on as a substitute against Tottenham in the Carling Cup earlier this season. He has been joined at Chesterfield by Coventry City defender Hawkins, who has also made a solitary appearance this term. Hawkins was also informed by Coventry manager Chris Coleman earlier this week that his contract would not be renewed in the summer. In addition to the twin loan signing, Chesterfield boss Lee Richardson hopes to bring in a free agent later on Thursday.
