Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate believes Mido is finally ready to show he can deliver goals at the Riverside.
The Egypt striker has scored just two goals this season and, after spending much of his time at the club on the sidelines with a pubic bone injury, returned to face Sheffield United last week looking overweight.
However, Southgate feels that the former Tottenham man is now returning to full fitness and can provide an extra element in attack.
"It's frustrating for him, but the good thing is that he has lost a lot of weight over the last fortnight," he told the Daily Express.
"He is continuing to get up to full fitness. He is aware of what we expect and what is needed, so he has shown a great willingness to embrace that, both in training and away from the training ground.
"He has made a lot of strides over the last few weeks. The important thing is he is back and he adds a physical presence to the side."
