Gareth Southgate was delighted with Middlesbrough's response in winning 1-0 at Portsmouth.
Boro had started the festive season with a home defeat to West Ham United before losing 3-0 at Birmingham City on Boxing Day.
But Tuncay Sanli's 20th minute goal secured Boro the points at Fratton Park and Southgate was buoyed by the display.
"We had a strength and resilience about us that was impressive," Southgate told Sky Sports.
"It's a tough place to come and we have never got a win here, I don't think we had beaten Portsmouth home or away in the Premier League.
"It's a huge performance and a great response to what we asked from the lads.
"I think we deserved it on the day. We were solid, we were strong and we were dangerous on the break, and we've given a good away performance."
Southgate also feels that many people would not have expected Boro to secure a result at Fratton Park, despite Pompey's recent poor form at home.
The manager added: "We needed a response from Birmingham because we knew that wasn't acceptable.
"Coming here and getting a result is the sort of thing people don't expect from Middlesbrough, so to do so, that's really pleasing."
