Middlesbrough are expected to announce the permanent signing of Jonathan Woodgate at a press conference on Thursday afternoon.
The defender agreed a season-long loan deal from Real Madrid last August and is still scheduled to return to the Bernabeu in the summer.
But Boro have now called a press conference and are set to reveal Woodgate has committed his future to The Riverside.
Woodgate has enjoyed a fine campaign with his home-town club and has steered clear of the injuries that plagued his Real Madrid career.
Gareth Southgate has made no secret of his desire to keep Woodgate at Boro, while Real have been willing to negotiate with the Premiership club.
The decision has rested with the player, and he has regularly admitted to having mixed feelings about his future.
But Boro have been working to persuade Woodgate to join the club and he looks to have been convinced.
