Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock has ended his determined chase to sign a new goalkeeper by clinching a three-month loan deal for Middlesbrough's Brad Jones.
The highly-rated Australian goes straight into the squad for The Owls' opening Championship tie against Preston North End on Saturday, and moves to Hillsborough in search of regular first team football.
Sturrock has been battling hard to reinforce his options between the sticks with just Chris Adamson previously available, and missed out on Liverpool youngster Scott Carson after he penned a new deal at Anfield.
However he has now landed a Premiership keeper ahead of the new season with Boro confirming Jones will be farmed out to the Yorkshire side.
The 24-year-old has made just 23 appearances for Boro with his compatriot Mark Schwarzer keeping hold of the number one shirt, and has previously spent loan spells with Stockport, Rotherham and Blackpool.
Meanwhile Owls striker Deon Burton has been ruled out of the start of the season due to a hamstring injury.
The Jamaican international is expected to be sidelined for three weeks, leaving Steven MacLean as the only fit striker for the trip to North End.
