Middlesbrough legend Juninho has slammed former boss Steve McClaren for allowing Ricardinho to slip the net.
Ricardinho spent a brief spell with Boro in 2004 but he failed to make a single appearance - making the bench just once.
He returned to South America and rebuilt his career and is now part of the Brazilian World Cup squad and featured prominently in the 3-0 win over Ghana.
"Ricardinho didn't do well for Middlesbrough, but that's because Steve McClaren didn't give him the attention he deserved," he told the club's website.
"To bring him to the club and then not play him was strange. No-one in Brazil could understand it.
"But he is a very good player and I am happy for him that he is in the national squad now."
Juninho also welcomed the appointment of Gareth Southgate as McClaren's successor.
"I think it is a good appointment. Gareth knows the club very well and he knows the players that Middlesbrough have," he said.
"Gareth hasn't got experience as a manager, but I think he will learn very quickly.
"He was a good leader when I was with Middlesbrough.
"He was a good captain who knew how to deal with players. I think he will be the same as manager. He can see the game and knows how it is played."
