Middlesbrough have tied down wing wizard Adam Johnson to a new long-term contract.
Newly installed Boro boss Gareth Southgate is working on bolstering his squad ahead of the new season, but the former skipper is well aware of the flourishing youth system in place at The Riverside - which has produced more first team players than any other Premiership academy.
Southgate wants to keep hold of all of his young stars and he has now pushed through a four-year agreement for Johnson - who made the big breakthrough last season, making nearly 20 first team appearances.
'Jinky' - as he is known to his team-mates, is very highly regarded by Boro and many expect him to push England star Stewart Downing hard for his left wing berth over the coming months.
"Adam has agreed a new four-year contract," his representative Ian Elliott confirmed to skysports.com.
"With the new season coming, he is very happy to have come to agreement.
"He is now looking to impress the new manager and help Middlesbrough over the coming years."
