Middlesbrough midfielder James Morrison could miss the remainder of the season due to a hip injury.
The 19-year-old has played a decent role for Steve McClaren's side this season, with 24 appearances and one goal for Boro this term.
Home-grown youngster Morrison is a product of the club's youth system and he was hoping to make more appearances in the closing stages of the campaign.
However, a recurrence of a hip injury means that he could miss the rest of the season as he needs to see a specialist about the problem.
"James is a big doubt for the rest of the season and he's going to see a specialist," said McClaren.
The news will be a big blow for both player and manager, who needs all hands to the pump at a crucial stage of the season.
McClaren's men are on a high after beating Chelsea in The Premiership and taking the upper hand in their Uefa Cup tie against Stuttgart.
They face Preston in the FA Cup on Sunday, but the Riverside outfit are still nervously looking over their shoulder at the Premiership relegation zone.
