Prem interest in Delap

Rory Delap could return to The Premiership as he looks set to leave Southampton.

Rory Delap could be set for a return to The Premiership as he looks set to leave Southampton.

The Republic of Ireland international is expected to leave St Mary's as his current contract expires in the summer.

Southampton are thought to be ready to listen to offers for the versatile performer as they would prefer to sell him rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

The news has alerted a couple of Premiership clubs and the player's agent Neil Sillet admitted a deal could be in the offing during this month's transfer window.

"There is a possibility Rory could be moved on by the end of the transfer window," Sillett told skysports.com.

"He is out of contract in the summer and I think Southampton are ready to let him go.

"There is a fair bit of interest in Rory with a couple of clubs keen on him.

"It is nice for Rory that a couple of Premiership clubs are interested in him and we will weigh up the options available."

Middlesbrough have been linked with the former Derby star and Sillett admitted he could make a move to The Riverside saying: "It is a possibility (moving to Middlesbrough)."
