Clubs queue for Hawley

Carlisle striker Karl Hawley is attracting attention from a number of clubs.

Carlisle striker Karl Hawley is attracting attention from a number of clubs.

The 24-year-old is currently topping the League Two scoring charts alongside Grant Holt and his feats in front of goal have now alerted several clubs from higher leagues.

Representatives from both Sheffield clubs were at Brunton Park to see Hawley score in the 4-0 hammering of Bury on Saturday, while Wolves are also known to be taking a close interest.

Newcastle and Middlesbrough are also understood to be monitoring the situation, although the most likely candidates to follow up their interest are Wolves. Glenn Hoddle is keen to replace the outward-bound Kenny Miller and is currently looking for a goalscorer.

Hawley hails from Walsall, and a return to the Black Country would certainly appeal to the 14-goal hit-man. Yet he insists that no amount of interest will distract him from rattling in the goals for The Cumbrians.

"You can't think about that," he told the Carlisle News & Star. "If someone did make a bid then maybe it would get in your head a little bit.

"But once you get out on the pitch you can't have those things in your mind. You've just got to concentrate on doing your job."
