Bastia starlet Alexandre Song insists he has no regrets about snubbing the chance to join Middlesbrough.

The teenage defender claims he was offered the chance to be part of Boro's Academy set-up in the summer of 2002.

Song spurned a switch to The Riverside Stadium and has established himself as a key member of the Bastia team this season.

The 17-year-old has reportedly caught the eye of Chelsea and Manchester United and could head to The Premiership if Bastia are relegated at the end of the season.

But while moving across The Channel could be an option in the summer, the Cameroon international does not feel he made a mistake in turning down an earlier opportunity in England.

"I don't regret it," Song told L'Equipe. "Bastia is my club.

"Here I have learnt, I won titles as I was an Under-15 champion in France.

"I really hope that we will get through this bad period."

Song also possesses a French passport but he had no qualms in choosing to represent the country of his birth at international level.

He added: "Choosing Cameroon was natural to me. Cameroon is my country even if I left at eight-years-old."
