Middlesbrough have turned down a bid from Queens Park Rangers for defender Andrew Davies.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a month-long loan spell with the Championship club before returning to Boro earlier this month, as Steve McClaren needed cover for injuries to key players in his back-line.

Despite Davies returning to The Riverside, Holloway was keen to have the youngster back in his squad again and launched a bid to bring him back to Loftus Road.

However, the North East club have decided to reject QPR's offer for the centre back.

"A bid was placed for Andrew Davies," said a QPR spokesman.

"That was turned down by Middlesbrough."

It remains to be seen if the West London side will come back with an improved off for Davies.

QPR seemingly have more room to manoeuvre in the transfer market following the recent sale of midfielder Kevin McLeod to League Two high-flyers Swansea City.
