Middlesbrough's Massimo Maccarone could be set to move from Parma to Siena in the search for regular football.

Maccarone is on loan at Parma after becoming a peripheral figure at Boro, but has again struggled to capture a starting berth.

Parma was chosen because of the striker's longstanding relationship with Silvio Baldini - but the coach has since departed Gialloblu - leaving Maccarone in limbo.

Several clubs are interested in the Italy international, with Lazio and Livorno credited with an interest.

But it appears to be Siena that are in pole position in the chase for his signature - and the striker could move on loan in the January transfer window.

Maccarone has scored just twice for Parma - a brace against Maribor in the Uefa Cup - but a knee injury has curtailed his impact on his return to Italy.
