Parma have confirmed that on loan striker Massimo Maccarone needs knee surgery.The Middlesbrough loanee limped off against Maribor in the Uefa Cup on Thursday.
Scans have now confirmed that an operation is needed, but there is no ligament damage which will mean Maccarone will be sidelined for just over a month.
Parma are now due to hold talks with Boro about Maccarone's treatment but he should go under the knife within the next few days.
